He is one of the most beloved actors of our generation. He is our Brando. He has enjoyed a 30-year career of being authentically, quirky and unconventional in his bizarre choices of movie roles. He always portrays these pariah-like characters on the fringes of society.
Like Brando, he has tackled some very morally-skewed roles that no other actor in Hollywood would touch with a 10-foot pole such as: the cross-dressing, low-budget film maker Ed Wood; journalist Hunter S. Thompson; cocaine kingpin George Jung; machine-gun toting, outlaw, mafioso, John Dillinger and of course the swaggering, drunken, Keith Richardesque, Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp oozes talent from every pore of his body. He is untouchable. He can do no wrong. Yet, in the last month he has had to face his most challenging role to date, that of the vilified, abusive husband, as claimed by his estranged wife of one year, Amber Heard.
Many people in his close inner circle have rallied to his defense but we are finally starting to see the cracks in the veneer of his fragile one-year marriage. What is the truth? Can astrology unravel the mystery of this unlikely pairing. What do the stars say?
Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 9, 1963 at 8:44 a.m. Yes, he was born under the chameleon sign of the twins. No surprise. Johnny embodies the typically curious and versatile Gemini spirit in all the movie roles he chooses. I honestly cannot think of an actor with a wider range of movie roles under his belt.
Yet, Johnny is a man of many paradoxes. He is not your typical run of the mill, flaky, Gemini. He has a grounded, earthy, ambitious moon in Capricorn. Johnny’s chart is riddled with practical, sensible earthiness. Yes, he is mercurial and creative but this guy has a good head for business. Money talks to him.
In fact, Johnny Depp is one of the richest men in Hollywood with an estimated net worth of 400 million dollars. One of the things I adore about Capricorn Moons is that there is always a rags to riches story in their youth. Johnny Depp is no exception. Johnny was born into a modest middle-class family. His mom was a waitress and his father was an engineer. He dropped out of high school to pursue his dream of being in a rock n roll band. Johnny has both Mercury and Venus in the sign of Taurus. Men with a heavy Taurean signature pay homage to the goddess Venus in the form of music. He did not make it as a musician but he did have the good fortune to meet Nicolas Cage, who advised him to try acting. As we say, the rest is history.
Johnny’s earthy Capricorn Moon is making a trine to his stellium in Virgo of Mars, Pluto and Uranus. That stellium is like a stick of dynamite ready to explode. He is an intense, passionate man with a very healthy sexual appetite. His Venus in Taurus certainly helps boost his libido. This is a tough aspect and not for the faint hearted. His stellium of Pluto, Uranus and Mars has the potential to be imbued with an obsessive compulsive and addictive quality. If not channelled properly, it can torment the native.
Luckily, he has always had his craft as a means to channel his intensity as we see with the roles he chooses. Does that stellium in Virgo translate to violence or abuse? These planets lie in the Eastern hemisphere of his chart. I think he has a tendency of being his own worst enemy and indulging in self-destructive habits himself rather than projecting them onto others.
Lastly, Mr. Depp has a warm creative Leo Ascendant. He needs to shine and be creative in his chosen profession. I think Nicolas Cage advised Johnny Depp very wisely. I think acting has given Depp an outlet to express his dark shadow side. Maybe that is why he loved portraying Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows… lol!
Amber Laura Heard was born in Austin Texas on April 22, 1986. Her time of birth is unknown. Her sensual earthy Sun is in Taurus ruled by Venus the goddess of love. Her Moon is also in Venus-ruled Libra, the sign of partnership and romance. With so much Venus in her chart she does embody the elegant, graceful beauty of the goddess herself.
There is one signature or aspect that sticks out in Amber Heard’s chart and that is her T-square from her Aries Mercury, to her Libra Moon squaring her Neptune/Mars conjunction in Capricorn.
T-squares are like a 3-legged table. They are an unbalancing aspect in an natal chart and it is not until the native reaches maturity that they are able to balance the T-square and utilize it. Any aspect that involves Moon, Mercury, Mars and Neptune is about the individual finding a voice to express her emotionally-charged feelings which sometimes overwhelm and confuse her.
The Mars/Neptune conjunction is what I refer to as the Bill Clinton/Pinocchio aspect. Mars/Neptune has a way of finding the truth subjective. Reality is subjective. None of us will ever forget Clinton declaring that he never had sexual relations with that woman. In his mind oral sex did not count and he found a loophole out of his moral dilemma. Bill Clinton has Neptune conjunct Mars on his Libra Ascendant. For him it was all about softening the sharp edges and candy-coating the reality of his behaviour.
Mars/Neptune does not intend to lie but they have a very vivid imagination. I think this coupled with the seesaw action between her Moon/Mercury opposition must be a very difficult aspect for Ms. Heard to balance.
We will come back to this aspect because it hooks in very nicely into Johnny’s chart.
In the midst of their acrimonious divorce it is hard to remember that these two lovers were quite taken with each other when they first met. In typical Hollywood fashion, Johnny Depp met Amber Heard on the set of The Rum Diaires. She auditioned 4 times for the role of Chanault, for director Bruce Robinson before getting the part.

Heard plays this elusive, unattainable, kept woman who entices Johnny’s character, Paul Kemp. The chemistry was instantaneous. Johnny confessed that he was quite taken by Amber’s beauty. She reminded him of bygone Hollywood siren Lauren Bacall.
Strangely enough when the two characters meet for the first time in the movie, Johnny Depp (Paul Kemp) mistakes Amber’s character for a mermaid or a siren.
The legend of the siren is quite fitting in this tale. In Greek mythology, sirens lived on a island by the sea. Their sweet, enchanting voices lured sailors overboard the ship to their imminent death in search of their seductive killers. This legend parallels the romance of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard quite poignantly. Whenever there is illusion, delusion, smoke and mirrors in a relationship, Neptune is never far. Their relationship has a very pronounced Neptunian signature and in true Neptunian form, the darker tales of alcohol, drug addiction and abuse are beginning to float to the surface.
Johnny’s Capricorn Moon is conjunct Amber’s Neptune/Mars conjunction, which is the apex of her T-square. Whenever somebody else’s planet touches an aspect in the other’s chart it has a tendency to magnify the energy of that aspect. When it is a negative aspect like a T-square, it will unbalance the individual even further. Since Johnny’s personal planet, the Moon, is conjunct her outer planet, Neptune, he puts her on a pedestal. There is a very tender, intuitive, sympathetic vibe between these two. This is a very romantic aspect. With Mars in the mix it becomes very sexually charged. It is a fairytale aspect that became warped by Neptune’s misty distortion. Johnny represents the knight in shining armour saving the muddled damsel in distress. Who is saving who, though?
Johnny’s Virgo planets form a trine to Amber’s Neptune/Mars conjunction. This adds a little bit of stability to her T-Square. These same Virgo planets form a wide trine to her Taurus Sun which is conjunct Johnny’s Midheaven. A grand trine is always a very fortuitous aspect in synastry. She boosted his public image and of course, they did meet on the job.
One incredibly sweet aspect that they both share is that their Venuses are conjunct each other. Amber’s Venus is also conjunct Johnny’s Mercury at 25˚ Taurus. They had a love and appreciation of the same things. They shared a love of vintage cars and hand guns. These two individuals shared a special bond and they were able to express their feelings and ideas effortlessly to each other.
So how did it turn south so quickly? You can always blame the transits and eclipses. We have been hosting the Pluto/Uranus square for the last two years in Aries and Capricorn. The eclipses of the 2015 and 2016 triggered Amber Heard’s T-square and Johnny Depp’s Moon.
They also got married on February 3, 2015 when the Uranus/Pluto square was almost exactly sitting on this T-square and Johnny’s Moon. Honestly, they did not stand a chance. A lot Hollywood marriages have crumbled in the last 2-years. This blog is a testament to that. You can blame Pluto and Uranus for that. These two heavy weights have only separated in the last month but, boy oh boy, have they left a lot of broken hearts in their trail.
Amber Heard is also a very young girl and is coming up to her first Saturn Return. Mars has been chasing Saturn in Sagittarius. This is going to be a very contentious Saturn Return for her. These divorce proceedings are proof.
My take on this is that they both married for love but they were victims of a 24-year age gap and some very difficult transits. Their electional marriage chart is riddled with strife. Initially Amber Heard did not set out to fleece Johnny Depp but now that she has the opportunity to get a slice of his 400 million dollar fortune, she is going for it. To his chagrin, he did not have a prenup agreement drawn up with his lady love.
The lesson of this story folks, is sign a prenup. It does not make you less romantic and it protects your assets.
