A collective sigh of regret was let out when this dynamic duo announced their decision to part ways and divorce in early August 2015. They were rock n roll royalty and seemed like they had it all; fame, looks, money, talent, an impeccable fashion-sense and three absolutely adorable children. Sigh!
So what went wrong? Regretfully, this is the kind of fallout you can expect around eclipse season which explains the tsunami of divorces that have been blowing through tinseltown, lately. As of last count, there has been Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert all headed for divorce court.
However, if we examine Gwen Stefani’s and Gavin Rossdale’s charts, we can see that this storm has been brewing for awhile. The 2015 eclipses in Libra/Aries may have been the nail in the coffin but sadly were not the sole contributors.
This pair met in 1995 while on tour when Gwen’s band, No Doubt opened for Bush, Gavin’s band. By Gavin’s own admission to Details magazine, he was instantly smitten by No Doubt’s sexy blonde lead singer but was too shy to ask her out. He plotted to throw a party just so he could get a chance to talk to her.
I threw a party in New Orleans just as an excuse to hang out with her. We drank a bunch of hurricanes and went around the French Quarter. We had our first kiss that night, just walking around, being careful to step over the puddles of pee. The next day we had that sort of cute, embarrassed, sober meet-up.
The gimmick worked like a charm. He not only got to talk to the girl; he got a kiss and 7 years later she became his wife. Quite the romantic start.
That instant attraction can be seen quite easily in both of their charts. Gwen was born October 3, 1969 at 1:02 pm in Fullerton California. She has a charming, artistic, Libra Sun with an emotional, nuturing Cancer Moon. She was born to be a mother and you can see that she is always very hands-on with her own children. She has a breezy Sagittarius Ascendant which allows her to make friends wherever she goes. Gwen also has the good fortune of hosting a stunningly, electric midheaven. The midheaven is your house of career and fame. It is the highest point of your chart. In Gwen’s case we see the Sun, Jupiter the ruler of her Ascendant and Uranus perched on top of her 10th house of honor. She has the “Midas Touch.” Whatever she “touches” in her career, she is wildly successful at it. Last count, she has had an amazing career as a musician with her band and as a solo artist for over 20 years. She has a thriving fashion label in LAMB. She has found success in television being a judge on The Voice.
It is easy to see how the quiet, shy, scorpionic Gavin Rossdale was captivated by the alluring Ms. Stefani. She is his polar opposite. There is a saying in astrology, “If we don’t have it, we end up marrying it.” Gwen projects all the qualities and characteristics Gavin himself does not have.
Gavin was born on October 30, 1965, 7:45 AM, in London England. He is a double Scorpio, with both Sun and Ascendant ruled by Pluto, lord of the underworld. Unlike his wife, he does not enjoy being in the limelight and would prefer to stay in the shadows to work his magic with his guitar. He also has a whiff of Pisces with Neptune ensconced in his first house and his Sun sitting in his twelfth house. This man has the tortured soul of an artist. He is highly creative, passionate and cares deeply about his craft. Gavin has a solid earthy Capricorn Moon. He is traditional and grounded. The Moon and Venus represent the ideal of what a man looks for in a woman. Gavin’s Moon in Capricorn would indicate that he is attracted to earthy sensible women.
The undercurrent of sexual chemistry was undeniable between these two when they first met. Gavin has a magnetic sexual aspect. His Mars and Venus conjunction in Sagittarius squares his Pluto/Uranus conjunction in Virgo. Without a doubt he is a chick magnet and loves sex. This is a man with a voracious sexual appetite. Gwen’s sweet Venus in Virgo sits on top of Gavin’s Pluto/Uranus conjunction and squares his Mars/Venus conjunction. This combination set off all kinds of lustful desires in these two. When I see this symbolic representation in synastry, I am reminded of the myth of Persephone being abducted against her will into the underworld by the enamored Pluto.
Gwen seems to be the sweet innocent Persephone and Gavin is the dark sinister Pluto. Gwen herself does not have any astrological sexual aspects in her chart to ignite her passions indefinitely. This might be a problem since her husband does have this signature. When squares are involved with Venus and Mars, it is bit of a double edge sword. At first they can ignite an irresistible lust but eventually the lust can fizzle out and turn to repulsion or worse competition. This of course can be a problem in a long-term relationship. What is also very interesting is that Gavin’s Mars and Venus falls in Gwen’s twelfth house. Hosting your spouse’s planets in the twelfth house can be quite challenging because you will never fully see your spouse as they are. The twelfth house in astrology is the house of secrecy and self-undoing. Elements of Gavin’s sexual escapades or appetites may not have been known to Gwen at the beginning. Over the years Gavin’s secrets have come out into the open. He had a love child from a previous relationship. He also had fling with a cross-dressing man in his youth. Secrets can take a toll on a relationship.
They have been together for 20 years. So what has kept them together? They have some very nice trines and sextiles amongst their personal planets and outer planets. Both of their Moons are tied up in a myriad of aspects both positive and negative. The Moon is your emotional nature and having aspects in synastry is crucial for long-term happiness for a couple. Their Moons are exactly polar opposite each other which can lead to arguments and misunderstandings. Both Gavin’s Moon at 14˚ Capricorn and Gwen’s Moon at 14˚ Cancer are squared to Gwen’s Sun at 10˚ Libra. This configuration is known as a T-square. It is a stressful aspect where neither one can see eye to eye. It is a bit like having 3-legged table. It takes a lot of work and effort to prop the table up. The table can collapse easily if neither party does the work. Luckily they have some lovely harmonious aspects that sooth this T-square configuration. Gavin’s Scorpio Sun trines Gwen’s Moon. Gavin’s Moon conjuncts Gwen’s Mars lending an air of excitement to the relationship. A nice sextile is also being made to Gwen’s Moon from Gavin’s Pluto/Uranus conjunction in Virgo. Gavin’s Saturn in Pisces is sending a stable vibe to Gwen’s Cancer Moon. Lastly there is a lovely trine from Gwen’s Virgo Venus to Gavin’s Capricorn Moon. They really do like each other and have shared mutual artistic interests together for the last 20 years. They weren’t just lovers. They were friends.
So what was the straw that broke the camel’s back? Why did these two call it quits? Alas, it was the transits of the outer planets and those pesky Aries/Libra eclipses. They can wreck havoc on marital bliss. Saturn began his sojourn into Scorpio two years ago conjuncting Gavin’s personal planets, Ascendant and 12th house. Saturn is like a wet blanket. Issues of security, jealousy and self-worth came to the forefront. If these issues have not been resolved, they will rear their ugly head. Having a wildly successful wife that earns more than him is not an easy pill for a Scorpio man to swallow. When Rolling Stone magazine asked about his wife’s success, Gavin was quoted as saying,
“You might come in with two of something, and she’s got 12 of something.”
The cardinal square transits of Pluto and Uranus have been aspecting Gwen and Gavin’s Moon/Mars Sun T-square for about a year and half now. That is a long time to be under the thumb of these two battling planets. The April 4, 2015 lunar eclipse at 14˚ Aries/Libra sealed the deal resulting in irreconcilable differences. Pluto was squaring this eclipse at 15˚ Capricorn conjuncting Gavin’s Moon and Gwen’s Mars. Uranus was at 16˚ Aries opposing Gwen’s Sun and squaring both of their Moons. This eclipse brought the matter to a close. Pluto and Uranus will be moving away from that T square point at the end of this year never to return to that point again. Unfortunately the damage has already been done closing the chapter on one of rock n rolls greatest couples. RIP Gwen and Gavin.
Since writing this synastry analysis back in September, many revelations have surfaced about Gavin and Gwen’s marriage. Without a doubt, the most shocking revelation is that Gavin had a three-year affair with their children’s nanny, Mindy Mann, whose business he invested in. Mindy Mann needed cash to launch her indoor playground and Gavin was kind enough to lend her the money. Shortly afterwards they started their affair.
According to the rumour mill, Gwen discovered their affair while surfing through her son’s iPad. Gavin had left revealing nude photos of the nanny on his iCloud account that was synced up to the iPad. Not only were they there for Gwen to discover, but any hacker could have had access to them. I guess he did not read about the Jennifer Lawrence or Kate Upton nude photo fiasco, this past spring.
Given that Gavin has such super-charged sexual aspects in his natal chart, Gwen should have hired Nanny McPhee to look after their children, not a smoking hot 20-year old Gwen Stefani look-a-like. That fact Gavin hosted his Venus and Mars in Gwen’s 12th house only guaranteed the deceit and secrecy of the affair.
Their divorce was finalized in August and Gwen has moved onto to greener pastures with her costar, Blake Shelton from The Voice. The great thing about Blake Shelton is that his inner planets don’t land in Gwen’s 12th house. Hopefully there won’t be any lies and deceit on his part. Gwen may get her happy ending after all. I have done an analysis of there relationship. Check it out.
