They have been dubbed the world’s most talked about couple. We are fascinated by them and can’t peel our eyes away; yet it is more like that senseless car accident on the side of the highway that we all slow down to gaze at in horror.
The incomprehensible fame of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is by product of the postmodern concept of “hyperreality.” Hyperreality is defined as the inability for consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation. Every week, 1.5 millions viewers tune in to find out the ongoings and drama of the Kardashians like it is their own family. Countless of water cooler conversations have debated on whether Kim and momager Kris staged events on the show, such as Kim’s sham wedding to Kris Humphries, for the sole purpose of cashing in commercially. Kim Kardashian is reported to be the highest-paid reality television personality, raking in an estimated cool $6 million a year.
To cut through the fake, crazy, veneered, fantasy known as Kimye, we have to ask the question are Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for real or are they as fake as Kim’s Juvederm injected lips and silicone enhanced breasts?
Kimberly Noel Kardashian was born October 21, 1980 at 10:46 a.m. in Los Angeles California. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. She is the daughter of O.J. Simpson’s defense attorney Robert Kardashian and Kris Houghton. Incidentally, she is O.J. Simpson’s god-daughter. The sad irony that her father was front-row and centre at the dawn of reality TV cannot be overlooked. The O.J. Simpson Ford Bronco chase and trial was the first taste Americans had of this addictive voyeuristic lifestyle. Americans were glued to their televisions sets for 135 days awaiting the outcome of the century’s most televised trial.
Kim has a sociable, charming and artistic Libra Sun with a dreamy, compassionate and sensitive Pisces Moon. She has a double dose of Pisces, with its ruler Neptune happily tucked away in her first house of appearance or Ascendant at 13˚ Sagittarius.
With Neptune conjoining her first house cusp and squaring her Venus in Virgo, it is easy to understand why this woman is reality TV’s highest paid star. Kim Kardashian is all about projecting a fantasy image to the world. It is all smoke and mirrors. She is a femme fatale, sex symbol image for men. Unfortunately it is not just the audience that never sees or understands the real Kim; Kim herself is a bit confused about Kim. She may not always exercise the best judgement in her life situations. Like Gwen Stefani, Kim Kardashian has a power packed Midheaven. She has Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn in her 10th house of career. Yes, she has the “Midas Touch” in all matters relating to her career. Her success has come from Libra ruled areas of interest such as; a clothing line, wardrobe stylist to the stars, workout DVDs, fragrances, modeling and diet supplements. She did have a brief frivolous musical career episode which failed but everything else she has attempted has succeeded. Kim has a fan pattern in her chart. Fan patterns are resourceful in that they have a talent for mooching off other people’s success and making it their own. Her fame began with her friendship with Paris Hilton. In her early days she was a fashion stylist to the stars. She leveraged those relationships to form her own fame. In spite of being born with a silver spoon in her mouth, she is a go-getter and a self-starter.
Kanye Omari West was born on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia at 8:45 a.m. Even though Kanye West tries to project the bad boy gangsta rapper image he is not the stereotypical rapper. He was born into middle-class bourgeoisie. Both his parents were university educated and had thriving, successful careers. His mother, Dr. Donda West, was a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University, and the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University.
His father, Ray West, is a former Black Panther and was one of the first black photojournalists at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His parents divorced and West went to live with his mother in Chicago. After graduating from high school, Kanye received a scholarship to attend Chicago’s American Academy of Art in 1997 but shortly transferred to Chicago State University to study English. He dropped out of university to pursue his musical aspirations. He had success as a producer but his true calling was to be a rapper but because he came from a middle-class existence, no one took him seriously in the industry.
Roc-A-Fella records did reluctantly sign him on. Kanye West has defied all odds and is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 21 million albums and 100 million digital downloads.
It should come as no surprise that Kanye West has a versatile, curious, changeable Gemini Sun conjunct loud, big-hearted Jupiter. Although the planet Jupiter is considered a benefic, in the sign of Gemini it is in its detriment. In astro speak, it simply means it behaves like a naughty petulant child in this sign. Jupiter expands whatever it touches. The Sun represents ego, so in Kanye’s case it inflates his ego. This expansive aspect also opposes Neptune and squares his Pisces Moon. This means it’s solar expression can be superficial, distorted or plain flat out mercurial. His Sun is also in the 12th house and he may not have access or be conscious of his overly expressive nature. No one can forget poor dejected Taylor Swift at the VMA’s after Kanye stole her moment and microphone with his thoughtless rant promoting Beyonce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvaakT52RjQ
As typical with someone with this signature, he had no filter and could not grasp that the audience was horrified by his callous actions. The danger with Sun/Jupiter/Neptune/Moon configurations is that they are are prone to delusions of grandeur and extremes. Kanye has a tremendous capacity to feel and take on other peoples emotions but his emotional patterns swing from high to low at the drop of a hat. He is an emotional roller-coaster. This dreamy Pisces Moon trines his watery Cancer Ascendant. Believe it or not there is a vast well of emotional depth to Kanye West. His family is of upmost importance to him. He was very close to his mother. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce, and Kim’s step father was touched by Kanye’s open support of her transition from man to woman. He was one of her first supporters and helped Kim come around. Kanye even made a guest appearance on Caitlyn’s reality TV show.
So what brought this unlikely pair together? Or is their union so unlikely? They were friends for nine years. Both have confessed that they were attracted to each other during that time but things never lined up for them until Kim’s short-lived two-month marriage faltered. Kim married Kris Humphries on August 2011. They were separated by October of that same year. By year-end, she was pregnant by Kanye with her first child. That is moving at the speed of light, even by Hollywood standards.
By sign, their Suns are in compatible elements. Both have airy intellectual Suns which is a good start. This means they have shared similar interests and hobbies. Although, by aspect they are widely conjuncting, both Kim and Kanye have a Pisces Moon. This goes a long way to create harmony and understanding in their relationship. These two are dreamers but they understand each other very well on an emotional level. Having a moon in the same sign goes a long way to creating domestic stability in the relationship. The Moon can also describe the female ideal for the man. In Kanye’s case he epitomizes the ever-so-neptunian Kim. She is his perfect woman. She also epitomizes him. His Neptune very closely conjuncts her Sagittarian Ascendant and squares her Venus. Kim is a hopeless romantic. Unfortunately for Kim, every man of her age group, give or take 3 to 4 years either way, has this aspect with her Neptune/Venus square. She cannot see them clearly and may misjudge their character very easily. At the age of 34 she has had 3 marriages under her belt and it is largely due to this difficult aspect. She is also a Libra and probably does not enjoy life without a partner. Her Neptune triggers his Sun/Jupiter/Moon/Neptune t-square. This trigger reinforces both of their delusions and fantasies. Her and Kanye also have a classic marriage aspect which is Kanye’s Sun/Jupiter conjunction in Kim’s 7th house. Kanye represents her idea of the ideal marriage partner. Kanye himself relishes in the role of benefactor or mentor to Kim. It is well known that he is her current fashion stylist and scrutinizes all her fashion choices.
There is a quite a few oppositions in their charts. Kanye’s Moon opposes Kim’s Venus and squares her Neptune. In turn, her Neptune opposes his Sun and Jupiter. Kanye’s earthy Venus/Mars conjunction opposes Kim’s Sun. His Mercury opposes her Uranus. All these oppositions point to the fact that they came from different worlds and may not have the same value system. With oppositions there is always the opportunity to learn how to balance these polarities but both parties have to have this awareness.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian have some very lovely romantic aspects together and are compatible on many different levels. Theirs is not fake union and their romance was not staged for ratings. Although their romance is not fake, it is heavily shrouded with the element of fantasy and illusion. The lines of reality and simulation are blurred for both. The problem with the relationship is that they both are so heavily neptunian. They can both get caught in the glitz and glamour of their professions. There are some minor grounding aspects in their charts. Kanye’s Leo Saturn is conjuncting Kim’s north node and trining her Sagittarian Ascendant. Kim’s Jupiter/Saturn conjunction is trining Kanye’s Taurus Mercury. They both have earth sign Venus’s which helps with money matters. The question is will these grounding aspects be the glue that holds them together? Is it enough? We are beginning the series of Virgo/Pisces eclipses which will be attacking that mutable t-square Kanye hosts. Saturn will also strategically move over Kim’s Ascendant and their Neptunes’ triggering that t-square over the next two years.
Kim being the good Libra wife has given Kanye license to play the role of mentor and guru at this point in their relationship. What happens when she does not want him to play that role anymore. She is a wallflower in appearance but her chart indicates she is a financially savvy woman with determination. She won’t remain a wall flower forever. The question is what happens to Kanye’s ego when Kim steps out of his shadow. Will he take the microphone away from her…and will she let him?
