Gwen and Blake. This S@#t is bananas!

By popular demand, The Realm of Astrology has had several special requests from readers to analyze the relationship synastry between Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.

They are the new  super-duper, cute “it” couple. Their newly minted romance blossomed in front of millions of viewers on The Voice. Their flirtatious chemistry was palpable and we can’t help but wonder what the prospects are for their future together? There have been numerous marriage rumours but as of this date nothing has been confirmed and wedding photos have not emerged.

Oddly enough, both of their love lives have followed the same trajectory over the last year. Both have had to endure their private lives being public fodder for the tabloids, as their marriages crumbled. Both have had to contend with jealous spouses feeling overshadowed by their fame on The Voice. Both have filed for divorce from their spouses last summer. The question begs, is this a rebound relationship for both or is this real deal?

Blake Tollison Shelton is an Okie from Ada Oklahoma. He was born on June 18, 1976, time unknown. His Sun falls in the sign of the twins. As a Gemini, it is no surprise that he oozes wit, intelligence and the ability to express himself with ease.

You can definitely witness his silver tongue on The Voice. He has a playful banter with frenemy, Adam Levine. One of the things that helps offsets Blake’s mercurial tendencies is that he has Venus conjunct his natal Sun. Venus softens the Geminian frenetic energy and adds an air of sweetness to the native. His cowboy charm shines through on the show.

Although he will poke fun at Adam Levine, it is light-hearted. He does not hit below the belt whereas Adam Levine has no qualms about going there. Adam has a bit of Scorpio in him and will sting his opponents with his venomous tail when threatened. The alpha-male pissing contest could be for the benefit of ratings because these two jokesters are friends in real life.

Blake has 3 personal planets in Gemini, Sun, Venus and Mercury. He is typical of the sign of the winged messenger but another thing that helps offset the excess Gemini is that Blake has a sweet, tender Moon in Pisces.

A Pisces Moon is a gift and burden wrapped up in one. On the one hand it makes the individual very creative and intuitive but on the other hand it can make the personality very confused and indecisive. They tend to over-extend themselves while helping others at the cost of their own well-being.

This Pisces Moon is a singleton because it is the only water planet in his chart. This means it is working overtime. Blake also has a bucket pattern in his chart. The Moon is the handle of the bucket. This wonderful Moon, is no doubt, the source of his musical talent but if not balanced it can lead to the more destructive Piscean habits such as self-sacrifice, victimhood or alcoholism.

Blake does have a fair bit of mutability in his chart which can also be a danger of being all over the map. Luckily there is a fair bit of fixed planets to counter that.

The lovely, ageless, songstress, Gwendolyn Renee Stefani was born on October 3, 1969 at 10:35 am in Fullerton California. The first time I delineated her chart I had the wrong birth time. This time I am using Astrotheme’s birth time which means I will have to revise my post about her relationship with Gavin Rossdale. Here is that post http://www.realm-of-astrology.com/no-doubt-it-is-over-for-gwen-and-gavin-2/#more-487.

The angles of the chart or the cross of matter is one of the most important features of synastry. Having the wrong ascendant really throws off the tone of the analysis.

Using the 10:35 am birth time we can see that Gwen has a charming, artistic, Libra Sun with an emotional, nuturing Cancer Moon. She was born to be a mother and you can see that she is always very hands-on with her own children. The thing about Gwen Stefani is that she is an original like no other artist of her generation. She is uniquely, quirky and marches to the beat of her own drummer, so it should be no wonder that the planet of genius, Uranus is conjunct her Sun. She has been around for two decades and is still on top of her game. She is not slowing down.

The 10:35 am birth time gives Gwen a deep, serious, penetrating Scorpio ascendent at 26˚ as oppose to a fun-loving Sagittarius ascendant. Neptune is nuzzled up to her ascendant giving her this wonderfully, ethereal aura of a rapping, gangsta-girl, Jean Harlow persona.

Even with a Scorpio ascendant she still has a stunningly, electric midheaven. The midheaven is your house of career and fame. It is the highest point of  your chart. In Gwen’s case we see Venus, Pluto, Mercury and Uranus perched in her 10th house of honor. She has the “Midas Touch.” Whatever she “touches” in her career, she is wildly successful at it. Last count, she has had an amazing career as a musician with her band and as a solo artist for over 20 years. She has a thriving fashion label in LAMB. She has found success in television being a coach on The Voice. Her latest album This Is What the Truth Feels Like has been well received by her fans and critics.

This electric midheaven was the point of contention in her marriage to Gavin. She was still hitting it out of the ballpark in her career; while his career had fizzled to a standstill.

One of the more interesting features of her chart is that most of her planets reside above the horizon. This means that inspite of having an introverted Scorpio ascendant, Gwen is very much out there in the public eye and relishes in that role. She is not shy. She is quite comfortable with her fame and being in the public eye which is a bit of a contradiction for the private Scorpio ascendant.

How does her relationship to Blake Shelton measure up? There are several things to examine in synastry. We are looking for aspects between the personal planets of these two icons. The orb of aspect has to be super tight in real and meaningful synastry. Usually 1-3˚ is the accepted orb. Anything wider is not. For natal chart delineation, it can be wider.

We also have to look at the angles, especially the ascendant and descendant which is why it is so important to have Gwen’s real birth time. It is unfortunate, but we do not have Blake’s birth time. A part of the puzzle will be missing.

I am going to upset a lot of fans here. Based on the chart synastry, this is not the romance of the century, as it is being painted in the media. There are two okay aspects. First aspect is Blake’s Pisces Moon which widely trines Gwen’s Cancer Moon. This is a very sweet aspect to have for domestic bliss. They intuitively understand each other’s emotional needs and respond to their external world in a similar fashion. Since I do not have Blake’s birth time, I am not able to assess how tight the orb is between these two moons.

The second aspect is that Blake’s Moon is conjunct Gwen’s north node. They have a shared destiny together and are in each other’s life to grow and evolve into their life’s purpose.

Their airy Suns trine by element but not by aspect. In fact, they are quite far apart. Remember, with synastry the aspect has to be smack on to feel the attraction. There is a 17˚ difference. It is still nice to have. They are simpatico with each other.

There is the conjunction of Blake’s Pluto to Gwen’s Sun/Uranus conjunction. This is not a romantic aspect but more of a controlling one. The trouble I see with this aspect is that it triggers Ms. Stefani’s T-square of her Sun, Moon, and Mars. This T-square is what wrecked havoc with Gavin, who had his Moon sitting on top of her Mars in Capricorn. If care is taken, the relationship will not devolve into a power struggle.

As far as the sexual magnetism goes, Blake’s Venus/Sun conjunction squares Gwen’s Pluto in Virgo. Initially, it creates fireworks and is very exciting but eventually it becomes irritating and competitive.

The only Saturn aspect that I see is Gwen’s Saturn conjunct Blake’s south node which denotes a karmic past. Any planet conjuncting a south node in synastry impede’s the growth of the native. Saturn seems to imply a heavy note or obligation. Not the lightest of aspects. It is like a wet blanket on the relationship.

The verdict on this relationship is that it feels more like a friendship than a torrid whirlwind romance. There are trines but few conjunctions or aspects to each other’s personal planets. Trines are nice but they are complacent. They are harmonious and pleasing but they are not earth shattering. You need some hard aspects to fuel the relationship. Hard aspects rock your world. Blake’s planets do not make aspects to Gwen’s angles. Having conjunctions to the angles is one of the tellings signs of a soulmate connection.

The best soulmate connection I have seen is that of Iman and David Bowie, http://www.realm-of-astrology.com/david-bowie-and-iman-keeping-up-with-the-joneses/#more-1775

The relationship between Gwen and Blake reminds me of The Boss song from the 80s “Dancing in the Dark.” I love the lyrics, especially the line he sings about;

You can’t start a fire.
You can’t start a fire without a spark

It seems like that is what Gwen and Blake are trying to do. They have been able to cry on each others shoulders. A friendly and comforting relationship is nice, especially after the emotional tsunami they both have been through. They are the survivors of the wreckage of what was once upon time their marriages, and now they are clinging on to each other on the life raft.

Thank you for this analysis. I have really looking forward to it since you did one on Gavin and Gwen.

    Two questions for you.
    1) would having Blake’s birth time impact your analysis much?
    2) do you think based on this chart, they can do the distance? I am hoping because of their ages and past experiences, it will help being new strength that otherwise might be lacking in their chart.

Thanks for taking the time and sharing your work.

      Hi Kim,
Having Blake’s birth time would make all the difference in the world because what they lack in their synastry is planets making aspects to their angles which indicates a soulmate connection. They also have very weak Saturn ties. Saturn is the glue that holds the relationship together when you get knocked out by a bad transit.

With Gavin, Gwen’s moon trined Gavin’s ascendant. Gwen’s Venus was in Gavin’s 10th house sextiling his ascendant and moon. It is an incredibly tight orb in terms of aspect. Gavin’s Saturn trined Gwen’s moon. Gwens’s Saturn trined Gavin’s MC. Again, really tight orbs.

My conclusion is Gavin was the love of her life but he broke her heart in a million pieces. Can Blake and Gwen make it work? I like them both. I hope so.

But planets never stay in the same place and are always moving. What happens to Gwen and Blake when they hit a bad transit and there is not enough glue (Saturn) in their relationship?

Great analysis. I love how you tell is as it is. Personally, I love their relationship or what is protrayed and seen so far.

Now you have to do an reading for Miranda and Blake to complete this trinity. Or even Miranda and her boyfriend Anderson.

That would complete the trinity. I think I will have some time in August. I am gearing up to election and RNC, DNC season. It promises to be interesting.

I think until we know Blake’s rising sign and Gwen’s TRUE rising sign, (I’ve seen Sagittarius, Scorpio and Capricorn rising for her at Astrotheme).. Right now it’s Capricorn 11/9/2016, then there is no way to do a true synastry chart as the ascendent and descendent are so important regarding attraction. Also as someone who also does Numerology and Chinese astrology they are crazy compatible in those aspects. Numerology they are both master number 11’s which are most compatible. In Chinese Astrology she is a Rooster and he is a Dragon which is also super compatible, so I think they are soulmates, knowing their rising signs would change everything.

In astrology you need at least 3 to 4 compatibility aspects to consider someone your soulmate. Ascendant and descendent in opposition is nice. The orb has to be super tight. Gwen and Blake do not have that. I find their aspects are too wide for my liking. My opinion is they are not soulmates. I know that makes people upset but also consider that they got together last year while Neptune was square Saturn. Dream versus reality. Not a great time to start a relationship, especially after being disillusioned by a painful divorce.

I like your analysis. But always Numerology and Astrology tend to compliment each other…..something is off somewhere. Too bad both of their birth times are unknown, that is probably where the answer lies.

The angles are very important, without a doubt. There are other factors. The aspects between personal planets have to be super tight. In this case they are not. With the exception of the moon, personal and outer planets do not move that much in a day. They have no Saturn aspects. Without Saturn ties, it is basically a fling. Sorry!
