I don’t think anyone, including George Clooney himself ever thought he would be celebrating his 1-year wedding anniversary. In fact, the urban myth swirling around Hollywood was that, back in 2007 George Clooney bet Michelle Pfeiffer of The Fabulous Baker Boys fame $100,000 that he would never get married; and he almost won that bet. That is, until Amal Alamuddin walked into his life.
So the $100,000 dollar question is how did the sultry Lebanese human rights attorney snag Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor? Certainly George has had his share of Hollywood beauties to escort about. Yet the girl who stole won his heart is the antithesis of the Hollywood starlet we are accustomed to seeing on his arm.
The new Mrs. Clooney a far cry from his professional wrestling ex, Staci Keibler. Amal Alamuddin studied law at St. Hugh’s College in Oxford. She graduated in 2000 and attended New York University where she did her clerkship. She has had a distinguished career defending big names such as Wiki Leaks founder Julian Assange and ex Ukranian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko. She even advised former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on issues on Syria.
Amal was born February 3, 1978 in Beirut, Lebanon. We do not have a time of birth. Usually in cases such as these a noon time birth chart is erected. It is quite befitting that Amal was born under the sign of the water-bearer which is known to exhibit innovative and humanitarian traits. In her career Amal champions the under dog. Her Sun conjunct Venus gives her a pleasing social demeanor. She has a philosophical and independent Sagittarius Moon conjunct Neptune which lends her an air of compassion and altruism; echoing the fight for the under dog theme. She is someone with very lofty principles. She really does believe in justice and fighting for everyone’s rights. Is it no wonder that George Clooney fell in love with her? She is beautiful and smart but caring too!
George was born May 6, 1961, 2:58 a.m. in Lexington Manor, Kentucky. George has a sensible, earthy Taurus Sun conjunct Mercury making him a natural born communicator. Words and ideas flow from his tongue quite easily. All you have to do is watch an interview with him. He has a serious driven Capricorn Moon conjunct Saturn. Although he comes off as one of the boys and is quite the prankster thanks to his Sun/Mercury duo; his emotions are in check and under control. In fact his emotional expression is quite calculated. He has an ability to detach himself emotionally from situations and people. Since both of these planets are in Capricorn it means his ability to express his emotional nature will come later in life as he matures which may explain the roster of girlfriends over the last two decades. Moon/Saturn takes things very seriously, especially long-term commitments. This could explain the eternal bachelor syndrome. He was not going to commit until he was ready. The Moon/Saturn conjunction also gives us a clue of the type of woman George has been seeking. His ideal woman is someone in control and with status. She looks good on paper but can pull off a Dior outfit and runway look. Amal is definitely the girl you would introduce to your mom. Speaking of dear old mom, the Moon/Saturn conjunction also points to someone who may not have received a lot of emotional nurturance in their childhood. Is George emotionally insecure and stunted? This Moon/Saturn conjunction is opposite his Mars in Leo which is quite the paradox. Although he may try to keep his emotional nature in check his fiery Leo Sun will stir the pot; the loud magnanimous George will come out of his austere Capricorn shell. Moon opposite Mars is prone to emotional outbursts also. George has a dreamy, creative, watery Pisces Ascendant which softens his practical earthy nature.
So what brought these two lovebirds together in holy matrimony? Their nuptials in Venice last year was quite an extravagant affair. Truly, it was a ceremony fit for royalty and they put on quite the show.
This one is a bit of a head scratcher because there are a lot of core incompatibilities in their charts. It certainly reeks of a May/December romance. First and foremost Amal’s Sun/Venus conjunction squares George’s Sun exactly. They do not understand one another and and are as different as day and night in their outlook towards life. At first the relationship may be dynamic and exciting but over time it becomes frustrating and competitive. With Venus involved it usually points to a different value system. There is also a sense that the give & take in the relationship is not equal. Unfortunately, Amal’s Venus/Sun conjunction falls in George’s 12th house of secrets and hidden enemies which is a difficult house to host your partners planets. It means there is an element of their life or personality that is hidden or unknown to the partner.
George’s Sun is quincunx Amal’s Moon/Neptune conjunction in Sagittarius. A quincunx is a highly overlooked aspect in astrology which is very annoying and grates away at the relationship over time. It is very hard to find common ground. Amal’s Uranus is also exactly opposite George’s Sun which at first sparks a lot of excitement and fireworks in the relationship but overtime, a chill sets in. The Uranian person will become distant and unavailable to the Sun person.
So do they have any favourable aspects helping their union out? They do have some nice aspects. George’s Venus in Aries is trining Amal’s Moon/Neptune conjunction in Sagittarius and sextiling her Sun/Venus conjunction in Aquarius. With Venus involved with the luminaries it always creates a sense of harmony and ease. They really do like each other and respect each other. With Amal’s Neptune/Moon conjunction closely aspecting George’s Midheaven, he has a dreamy unrealistic illusion of her. He really does put her on a pedestal. Amal’s Mercury is conjunct George’s Moon/Saturn conjunct in Capricorn. They love having intellectual discussions. There is an intuitive bond between the two. Amal is the brainiac of the two and George is in awe of her intellectual prowess. As a couple it is known that they have a shared love of politics. Their Mars’ are conjunct which means that their sex drives are in sync. Both of their Mars’ oppose George Moon which is a high sexual aspect but again, the excitement wears off overtime. There is George’s Venus opposite her Pluto which can be a very sexually charged aspect also but leads to power struggles over time.
Saturn, the taskmaster planet figures into their synastry very sparsely. There is Amal’s Saturn conjuncting George’s north node meaning they have a shared destiny and future path together. Other than that there is no other meaningful Saturn contacts in their charts.
The overall theme of this relationship is initial excitement followed by frustration and eventual burnout. I am reminded of that Eagle’s song, After The Thrill Is Gone.
The flame rises but it soon descends
Empty pages and a frozen pen
You’re not quite lovers and you’re not quite friends
After the thrill is gone, oh,
After the thrill is gone
They are still in the throes of their honeymoon period but this relationship will be difficult to sustain in the long run. Their suns and moons are in different elements. There is too many oppositions, squares and quincunxes; and not enough helpful aspects to ease the tension. As a disclaimer, it should be noted that since Amal’s birth time is unknown no one knows her Ascendant and Midheaven and angles which can change the narrative.
Around the time of their courtship in 2013, it should be noted, George was experiencing Saturn going over his Neptune the ruler of his Ascendant, opposing his Sun/Mercury conjunction. Mercury is the ruler of his Descendant. Eclipses were also happening on the Taurus/Scorpio axis. Maybe the realization dawned on him that he needed to settle down and make a commitment.
The verdict is still out on this relationship but I would advise Michelle Pfeiffer not to count all her moola from the bet just yet.
